In Panaji, the leader of the opposition, Yuri Alemao, expressed concerns after the Independence Day celebrations. He stated that holding talathis accountable for instances of hill cutting is insufficient, as such violations often involve collaboration with politicians. Alemao emphasized the need to take action against the politicians facilitating these activities, particularly in the realms of real estate and TCP. He also questioned the government's failure to address Goa's land alienation despite promises of special status in 2014. Alemao criticized the state government, citing rampant corruption and the inability to combat the escalating issue of hill cuttings in Goa. Regarding a recent murder case in Baga attributed to a drug dispute, Alemao criticized the Chief Minister for not addressing the opposition's concerns about Goa's increasing drug trade during the assembly session. He highlighted the pervasive influence of drugs, gambling, and criminal activities in Goa, suggesting that police involvement may be contributing to the problem. Alemao emphasized the importance of allowing law enforcement to take effective action in such situations.
